1. Has your image of Jesus changed during the project? How or Why not?

My image of Jesus hasn’t really changed this project, but i have learnt about all the time periods that Jesus was included in and also how he was represented due to the events that occured in a particular time period.

2. What do you feel is the best way to portray an image of Jesus and why?

I believe the most effective way to portray an image of Jesus is through art or images. This is because you can visually see the drawing or painting and straight away see what sort of emotions or messages that artwork is trying to get across.

3. What have you enjoyed about the project so far and what would you do differently?

So far in this project i have enjoyed researching different time periods,i have found some interesting artworks such as the last supper and last judgment. I found these 2 paintings interesting so i started to do further research and was surprised on what i found. I have also learnt about different artists and what movement or period they focused on. What i would do differntly is set each member of my group to go nd research a time period and come back to the group with some dot points to share with the group, so we can understand what each time period is about.

1) What form of medium (music, art or literature ) allows you to best connect with Jesus and Why

The medium that allows me to connect and establish a relationship with god is art. When i see images of god it usually displays many characteristics of god, either being crucified on the cross or sitting down with his sheep or disciples. Images help me most to connect with Jesus because i can visually see what sort of pain and suffering Jesus went through for us. Also i can see what a kind and patient person he was with everyone around him.

2) Why has Jesus been portrayed in so many different ways throughout history?

There are many reasons Jesus has been portrayed in different  time periods. This is because of different events that occurred during the time, for example if it was a time of war Jesus would be represented in a dark environment with a lot of pain and suffering around him.

3) How is Jesus portrayed at Parramatta Marist?

In Parramatta Marist Jesus is portrayed as a role model and a friend within the Parramatta marist community. He is someone that everyone can turn to when they are in trouble or in need of someone to talk to, he is someone that makes us comfotable and always will help us nomatter what.

4) What artistic time period do you think best represents your image of Jesus and why?

The time period i think that most represents Jesusis the Renaissance time period. The renaissance time period was a time of great religious artists like the famous Leonardo Da Vinci and Michael Angelo, who are famous for their paintings of last supper and Last judgment. These 2 paintings really make me understand about Jesus and what sort of man he was, in the last supper it shows him with his 12 disciples having his last feast, and in the last judgment showing when and how the world will be judged. These 2 paintings are my favourite because they are mysterious and hold a lot of information surrounding them.

5) Identify one image of Jesus that appeals to you. What do you like about the representation?
6) What factors currently shape your image of Jesus and why.
The facors that shape my image of jesus are the last supper, last judment and the crucifiction. Also the many the miracles he has performed such as healing a blind man.

Investigate how Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered pulsars in 1967. Write a short account of this event. (5 lines)

Bell’s first two years at Cambridge were spent assisting in the construction of an 81.5-megahertz radio telescope that was to be used to track quasars. The telescope went into operation in 1967. It was Jocelyn Bell’s job to operate the telescope and to analyse over 120 meters of chart paper produced by the telescope every four days. After several weeks of analysis, Bell noticed some unusual markings on the chart paper. These markings were made by a radio source too fast and regular to be a quasar. Although the source’s signal took up only about 2.5 centimetres of the 121.8 meters of chart paper, Jocelyn Bell recognized its importance. She had detected the first evidence of a pulsar.

NASA would undertake a mission like this so they can uncover clues to the geological history biological potential of Mars. They are trying to determine:

- Whether life ever arose on Mars

- Characterise the climate of Mars

- Characterise the geology of Mars.

I think that NASA will find, water, trapped oxygen, cells and samples of life.

I think that it is a good idea to research other planets because it is a back up if something goes wrong with out planet that makes it unlivable. Such things could include, global warming and if the sun increases it size and engulfs the earth.

These are 2  helpful websites that i think are very good and gave me some of my information>>> http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/phoenix/missions.php

 THE BIG BANG:

What contribution did the following scientists make towards the big bang theory?

  • Walter Adams. -  Walter Adams discovered how to determine stellar distances: they showed that the relative intensities of spectral lines could be used to determine absolute magnitudes of both giant and main sequence stars.

  • Ralph Alpher. -  He was a  physicist whose doctoral dissertation provided a feasible formula for the scientific idea of the big bang.

  • Robert Dicke. -  Used physical and mathematical formulas to estimate the age of the universe.

THE HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE

Research and gather information from the Internet about the Hubble Space Telescope. Use the following questions as the basis for your journal entry:

  • What was Hubble’s involvement in space research? -  Edwin Hubble discovered these things related to space, the universe goes beyond the milky way galaxy, redshift increases with distance, also he discovered an asteroid.

  • What does the telescope do? – The Hubble is the only telescope ever designed to be serviced in space by astronauts. It allows it to take extremely sharp images with almost no background light.

  • Where can the telescope be found? – The Hubble Space Telescope is a space telescope that was carried into orbit by a space shuttle  in April 1990.

  • What is Hubble’s law? – Hubble’s law is that the further the galaxies are from earth the faster they must be going.

1. List TWO problems that could occur from students selecting their own groups.

The first problem that could occur when selecting our own groups, is when we pick our friends to be in our group. This could be a problem because it could distract us from our work and make us concentrate less on our work and more on our conversations with our friends. The second problem is that we could give our friends less work because we are afraid that they will get angry with us. This means that the work load will increase for one particular student because they don’t want to put any pressure on their friends.

2. Which type of student do you think would be selected first?

Personally i think that the smartest people will be chosen first. This is because students will feel more secure when someone smart is in their group to guide them. Also this could be a bad thing because the smart person will do all the work in the group and not say anything.

3. Why do you think they were selected first?

They were selected first because of their reputation when it comes to work. Students know that that particular student  will work good and produce good work. They think that the work load will decrease for them.

4. Which type of student do you was selected last?

The student that was selected last was known to be lazy and not do their work. This resulted in the student being randomly put in a group.

5. What beneficial characteristics can you offer to your group?

The characteristicsthat i can provide to my group are, good work ethic, good communication with group members, good work produced and good organistation skills.

6. List THREE things you personally would like to improve on during this project.

The 3 things i would like to improve this project are

- Being aware of when individual taks or group tasks are due.

- How much work i put into the group

-  Also to make everyone pull their weight and produce good work, in order to receive good marks.

1) What words and or images come to mind when you hear the word Jesus.

The 1st image that comes to my mind when i think of Jesus, is the holy cross. The cross or crucifix reminds me of the pain and suffering that Jesus went through to give us life, also for the forgiveness of our sins. The 2nd image that comes to my mind is the image of Jesus with a open heart, this to me means that Jesus will always love us no matter what we do and is always there for us whenever we need him. The words that come to my mind when i hear the word Jesus are, kind, loving, forgiving, father, preacher and leader.

Jesus on the cross

2) Why might it be important for young people to identify with an image of Jesus?

It is important for young people to have an image of Jesus so that they have a vision of Jesus and what he has done for us. It is good for young people to understand that Jesus plays a big part in our life and we must always give time to appreciate what he as done for us. We can do this by either going to church or make a promise to prayer everyday beore we go to bed.

3) Where in your life do you most associate with images of Jesus

I associate with images of Jesus everyday. In my work, communication with friends, honesty with people. When i do these things people see that i am displaying jesus like qualities, they then see what Jesus is like.
